I have a black wire and a white wire coming out of the wall but they are not labeled. I bought a cheap little thermostat with 4 connections R, W, Y, and G. The thermostat is for cooling and heating. Can I make this work? If not what do I need?

Okay, I moved into this house last winter and ever since we have had a horrible smell coming from our registers/air returns. Even when the AC or heat is off, you can still kind of smell it lingering.
It is kind of musty and just feels like we’re breathing in dirt. It is NOT a dead animal. Our house is also really really dusty. We do have 3 cats so I know that adds to it but I also bought an air purifier for my room and it doesn’t help at all! We change the filter monthly and just bought a more expensive kind that is washable but nothing helps.
We had someone come out and check it and he said the coil was fine but there was a huge pipe coming from the attic into the furnace which he sealed off. We thought maybe that was causing the smell and dust but that still didn’t help. The only other thing he could think of was getting the air ducts cleaned.
Do you think this will help? I tried to bleach them out myself but the dirt was caked on and I couldn’t get any of it out.

ok i want to heat my new house its 3 levels basement,ground level and top level around 3300 sq feet was looking at heat pumps there around 15k canadian and I’m not sold on there performance reason being i live in a cold climate and also i don’t need A/C or i could go with electric furnace with wood add-on cost around 4.5k unsure of the installing cost and also getting wood to burn is not a concern so if anyone could tell me whats better and if they know around what installation of the ducting,chimney and what not would cost me just ball park figure

The city building dept. wants me to pull the permit since they do not have record of a permit ever being pulled. They are actually requesting a lot of permits for what I would call pre-existing conditions. Is there something in the International Bld Code to manage this?

some where on your furnace it has a name plate. it tells a lot of things including the b.t.u.s’ with a number in front or behind the BTU. this is the size of your furnace. if you think you need to replace it get an energy efficient one. if it works but not well then try this. believe it or not i have seen some mobile home furnaces not work just because the squirrel cage fan was dirty. if the fan is dirty it won’t move the air away fast enough and it either won’t start or will quite right away. shut off the electricity. pull out the fan assembly and clean the squirrel cage. good luck.

because of this? without losing my assistance? A repairman told my landlord is was inadequate for this size of apartment, I don’t believe he is going to replace the unit. I moved in in Feb and it was freezing with the furnace on (it pretty much ran non-stop, and I only like the heat at about 65 in the winter) and now when it’s 85 out and I run the a/c it’s usually like 90 in here. I just don’t know what to do. I start school in the fall and really need the assistance. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks!

My husband and I recently bought a house from his grandmother and it had an old wood furnace in the house. We took that out because it was not safe. We expected to have the money for it but we do not. We even tried getting a loan, our house refinanced but we havent had the house long enough to do that. We are running out of options and im trying to find some kind of assistance, if anyone has an helpful information it would be greatly appreciated!!!

I am waiting on the specs. I checked with the BBB and it is a reputable company. I just have to pay for the installation and taxes. I thought it sounded like bull to. I just wondered since I know nothing about furnaces. I guess I need a new one. I couldn’t afford to buy one if mine went out. So maybe od is looking after me. Thanks for any help. C
